Hearing is one of the most important human senses and forms an important part of a person’s relationship with the environment. For this reason, the occurrence of problems in the hearing system will have a serious impact on a person’s life and its elimination will be very important. Hearing loss means a decrease in the ability to perceive sounds, and is in fact a disability that is never seen but is considered as a severe disability.

Cochlear implants are performed for deaf people who are deaf in both ears and cannot use devices such as hearing aids. These people are divided into two categories; The first category includes people with congenital deafness. People born congenitally deaf cannot learn to speak and become deaf and dumb. In these conditions, the only way to treat these patients is cochlear implantation. The second group for cochlear implants are people who have the ability to speak but become deaf for reasons such as infections, accidents, and inherited underlying diseases. The speech rate of these people gradually decreases and they lose the ability to speak in the long run. People with congenital deafness can undergo cochlear implant surgery up to the age of five.

The field of hearing is one of the most active and constantly evolving fields in the world due to its great importance. For this reason, many articles in this field are registered annually in the world. Therefore, improving existing systems is one of the things that all professionals and manufacturers pay attention to in order to progress in this field. New audio signal processing algorithms are constantly being developed to eventually lead to a better hearing of the patient and a closer cochlear implant system to its normal sample. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to be able to continuously upgrade the related system by testing new processing algorithms. For this reason, ARM-based hardware was developed to test new algorithms by connecting the radio transmitter system [1] to the computer. The RF part is a piece of hardware between the signal processor and the inside of the head, which is responsible for receiving information from the processor and sending it to the inside of the head via radio waves.

Capabilities

Sending and receiving information from PC to SIB hardware and then RF and vice versa, via USB port.
Check the accuracy of the sent and received data.
Connect the hardware to the RF unit and send information to this unit to stimulate the implant
Ability to adjust specifications such as Coarse Amp, Pulse Duration and Pulse Gap.
Ability to receive Matlab software output data file and send its information to the internal part of the head.
